i have a johnson 25 horse outboard boat motor. it is getting plenty of fuel and air, and i cleaned the magnet and flywheel, but still no spark. the boat has coils but they're not very old, and it has 2, one per cylinder, and i dont think they'd both go out at the same time. any ideas?

Check the wire to and including the kill switch. The kill switch shuts off the engine by grounding the coils. If the switch is open or the wire to it has a bare spot and is touching ground you will not have any spark.

Couple opportunities: Idle velocity set too low. If it idles nicely while heat it is far less probable to be the case. Worn carb drift valves leak enable a tiny little bit of gas previous when you stop, slightly flooding the motor, makes a heat initiate complicated. would desire to restart ok in case you provide it some million/4 to a million/2 heat-up throttle. Carb rebuild with new drift needles/seats is the answer.

no spark indicates to me that you either have a bad stator or trigger or both. You may want to try testing the two to see which one if not both are bad.
