Possible, yes. Probable-no. If the crank is bent, the air gap between the flywheel and stator will change, possibly creating inconsistant spark.

Now read this on how to diagnose your Force ignition:

That isn't a mechanic, he's just a part swapper. If the guy cant work on something as simple as a 1986 Force then I'd hate to see him bumbling around on a more advanced engine. If I were you I'd get over there as soon as possible and get it away from him.

Most outboard problems come down to spark, fuel, compression. If a cylinder isnt firing then the first thing to do is see if it has good spark, if not trouble shoot the ignition. If it does have spark then you check the carb and compression.

The fact that this guy cant narrow the problem down before he starts swapping parts (at your expense I'm sure) would be enough for me to take my engine elsewhere.

Get a real mechanic fast! He should be able to test the trigger, stator, etc to determine what the problem is and he has not. It is not your crankshaft, possible the magnets in the flywheel ...

Your problem is in the secondary ignition system. Find a reputable certified shop in your area to get it fixed. That guy gave up on guessing that's why he now says crank shaft.

It's almost always the cd box......if replaced with a used one......it's bad. Did your mechanic say the engine was not running because of piston failure? If you pull the head you can see the problem.........often misdiagnosed as an ignition problem.......Compression isn't definitive on this. Look at the plugs. If so, find a good running used engine, even if you have to buy the whole rig....boat motor and trailer......there are real buys out there.
