Does the marina allow liveaboards? I'm guessing if they do they would be quite difficult to come by. But I actually will probably end up buying a boat that's for sale in the marina and can use that slip. But will it be easy to obtain liveaboard status in Marina Del Rey?

Marina Del Ray, is actually a place, which has several yacht clubs, boat yards, anchorages, and yes, marinas. All are under the LA County department of Beaches and Harbors. LA County Prohibits liveaboards of more that 3 days a week. Individual Marinas (yacht clubs etc) have a Dock master who can allow liveaboards, but you must get a permit issued by the LA County Police Harbor Master, and meet certain requirements for sea worthiness sanitation (no discharge) and proof of authorization the individual marinas dock master. This is a yearly permit.

Some marinas allow liveaboards and some do not. If they do they usually accept and hold mail for boats in the marina. The easiest thing is to simply call the marina in question and ask them. If they do allow liveaboards it should be no more difficult to get a slip as a liveaboard then any other boat and in fact might be easier, since liveaboards typically secure a long term lease (on the slip) which guarantees the marina income for that period of time (that is why long term slip rentals are usually cheaper then transient rates.
