X is the Sectional line or longitudinal axis. It runs parallel to the keel of the ship or fore and aft

Y is the Buttock line or lateral axis and runs left and right or port and starboard.

Z is the Waterline or vertical axis and runs up and down.

This link shows section lines at the top, waterlines in the middle and buttock lines at the bottom:

im thinking its an xyz axis graph right? in that case it would be, in general, the x-axis being the length of the ship, y-axis being the height of the ship, and the z-axis being the depth, or the 3rd dimension of the ship.

Fore and aft

Port and starboard

Up and down.

I would have to check witch is witch. XYZ. skip.
